Poised on a cube, Fiefdom explores the great contrast of possibilities and limitations imposed by dancing in a fixed space. A metaphor for the great beauty that can come from deep investigation of our perceived limitations, Fiefdom exploits the fixed space of the cube and body while embracing the limitless potential of dynamic surroundings.
Vent is an exploration of the use of breath as propulsion, restriction and accompaniment.
Using consonant breath sounds, Melanie creates a score that both accompanies and drives her movement. Momentum and gesture pervade the dance.

Liaison is a work for piano and dancer conceived by Megan Beugger and made in collaboration with dancer/choreographer Melanie Aceto. In this piece, Beugger explores the duality of roles for the dancer as musician and the piano as both provider and inhibitor of sound. This work questions the primacy of movement vs. sound and the possession of control.

As though encapsulated in a cocoon, Melanie rises and emerges to manipulate her shelter like a soaring wave. Spiraling, trailing, wrapping and spreading, the former cocoon evokes a variety of images such as wings, a veil, a dress and a cloud. An expression of exit and re-entry, Delve seeks to image the innateness of wanting to return.

Bide is a three part solo to an original score by Mark Olivieri. Nooked in with the cello and violin, Melanie’s dancing creates a visual trio. A strong and direct response to the music, the choreography complements, highlights and expands upon the detail and emotion of the musical composition.

“Those who hear not the music, think the dancer mad.”
