MERGED returns to Geva Theatre after last year’s critically acclaimed “Critic’s Picks” performances. This year, international choreographers Heather Roffe and James Hansen join forces with renowned choreographer Melanie Aceto for MERGED II. City Newspaper wrote of MERGED 2013: It "seemed new and fresh, yet it was still accessible and, at times, even poignant:" “I was flat out amazed;" and "I was captivated by...some very exciting dancing."  Come see how MERGED continues to excite both new and seasoned dance audiences!

Live music by Lawrence Rizzuto and friends will accompany the dancers. In this dance installation piece composed by Melanie Aceto, the audience is invited to come at any time, and stay for as long as they wish. http://www.melanieaceto.com/

$5 to $10 suggested donation

Liaison is a work for piano and dancer conceived by Megan Beugger and made in collaboration with dancer/choreographer Melanie Aceto. In this piece, Beugger explores the duality of roles for the dancer as musician and the piano as both provider and inhibitor of sound.  This work questions the primacy of movement vs. sound and the possession of control.

Dance Sampler - A deliciously tasteful program of contemporary dances by Melanie Aceto, Anne Burnidge, Laurie MacFarlane, and Ruben Ornelas.

Karpeles Manuscript Library
453 Porter Ave.
Buffalo, New York 14201

Melanie Aceto’s solo, “Vent,” uses breath to create a score that both accompanies and drives her movement. "Advocate", also by Aceto, is a highly physical duet. “Passing” by Laurie MacFarlane is a collage of found movement set against a backdrop of spoken word and familiar song. “Barrio Poems,” a solo by Ruben T. Ornelas is set to the poetry of Joaquin Zihuatanejo interspersed with Mexican folk music. "Permeable" by Anne Burnidge explores the delicate line between enough and too much.

A Musical Feast performs as part of M&T Second Friday

The Friday, October 11, 8pm concert at the Burchfield Penney looks to be one of the most original in the group’s history. Megan Beugger, composer of Liaison, collaborated intensively with the talented modern dancer Melanie Aceto to develop a work that proved to be one of the most original works at this year’s June in Buffalo new music festival. Aceto will also feature prominently in the premiere of Defence, Israeli composer Moshe Shulman’s newest work. Robert Berkman has had a connection for many decades with Buffalo’s QRS piano roll company, and he has made a career out of preserving the legacy of the piano roll. His portion of the program will expand on his recent well-received pianola recital at the National Gallery in Washington, DC.
